This month marks the 40th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. For many years, the ruling was considered the ultimate victory for abortion rights activists in the United States and the crowning achievement in the fight for women’s rights and feminism in modern America. Four decades later, some believe that the abortion rights cause is in crisis, and the pro-life movement is winning the fight over access to abortion.
In her cover story for Time Magazine, staff writer Kate Pickert writes that “the story of pro-choice activism after Roe reveals that there may be nothing worse for a political movement’s future than achieving its central goal.”
