This weekend, movie-goers saw Jennifer Lopez pursue single parenthood with donor sperm only to meet the man of her dreams immediately after being inseminated. But what happens when the premise of “The Back-up Plan” happens in real life?

Carey Goldberg, Beth Jones and Pamela Ferdinand are journalists, and co-authors of “Three Wishes: A True Story of Good Friends, Crushing Heartbreak, and Astonishing Luck on Our Way to Love and Motherhood.” And, much like Jennifer Lopez’ character in “The Back-up Plan,” all three attempted to embark on parenthood with donor sperm, only to fall in love along the way. They join us to share their intertwining stories.
