Listening to the Stories of the Long-Term Unemployed

The Takeaway

We have been hearing stories of struggles in the job market and small triumphs this week on The Takeaway. We’re asking listeners to tell us their stories of how unemployment has affected their lives.   Lyndon Dees, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, has been unemployed since he lost his business consulting job at a firm called Deloitte in 2009. His unemployment benefits are running out, and his temporary job working in the admissions office at Langston University ends soon. But he says he’s optimistic that a job will open up soon.

Do you support journalism that strengthens our democracy?

At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.

Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever!
