Border controls hurt Mexican factories

Mexico’ fastest-growing town, Reynosa, sits on the U-S/ Mexico border beside the south Texas town of McAllen, itself one of the top 10 fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States. The towns are growing is growing in part because American, European and Asian investment in Reynosa is growing rapidly. Reynosa has 220 assembly-line factories, or maquilladoras that make everything from auto parts to electronics for export. The World’s Lorne Matalon reports that the economy is expanding in spite of the deployment of the Mexican Army in Reynosa.
