At this time of year, the Clark’s Nutcracker, harvests and buries pine seeds in America’s west as food to last through the long, cold winter. But some of these seeds take root and create new pine forests.

The Clark’s Nutcracker is a bird that hails from the western United States. And as Michael Stein reports, it has a unique role in sowing the seeds of whitebark pine forests.
