Tributes and statements have been rolling in from all corners for the late Whitney Houston, who passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the age of 48.

The Washington Post reported on Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Calif.) whose statement was inserted into the Congressional Record yesterday:

“Mr. Speaker, where do broken hearts go? Millions of hearts broke at the news that with her passing, we lost one of the greatest gifts of all; the pure joy we felt whenever Whitney sang one of those songs that made us get up and want to dance with somebody. Yes, we almost had it all.

Whitney Houston left us too soon, but her remarkable voice will live in our hearts as one moment in time we will never forget.”

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said he would be ordering flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Houston when her funeral service is held in Newark on Saturday.

According to Politico, Christie said, “Obviously, Whitney Houston was an important part of the fabric — the cultural fabric of this state,” and belonged in the same category as other greats from the state such as Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Bruce Springsteen.

White House Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske said on CBS News that the troubled singer’s death was a “teachable moment” as she struggled with drug addiction during her life.

“Her death is absolutely tragic and this brings attention to the problem that she had talked about in the past and that certainly is prescription drugs,” he said. "It effects a huge number of people in this country and has driven deaths to very very high numbers – well over 15,000."

Houston’s cause of death is not yet known.
