December marks five years since Chinese authorities informed the WHO about a growing number of patients in the country experiencing pneumonia-like symptoms from an unknown sickness. This was the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, virologists worry about the spread of H5N1, a respiratory disease commonly known as bird flu.
