Argentina higher education

The World

Argentine students and teachers are holding a general strike this week against attacks on higher education in President Javier Milei’s austerity measures. Milei has vowed to veto a new congressional bill that would fund university budgets over the next year, including increases in professor’s salaries. Argentina’s 60 public universities are free to students who are admitted. Some students and staff fear that education is under threat, while others believe cuts are necessary to right Argentina’s economy. Michael Fox reports from the University of Cordoba.
