This musician’s songs are inspired by Iran’s 1970s pop scene

Growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Yvette Massoudi felt like an outsider. Born to an Iranian father and adopted by American parents, Massoudi says she always wanted to find her “people.” Then, in the early 1990s, a website introduced her to pop music in Iran from the ‘70s and that set her on a path to discovery. Massoudi went on to learn Persian and to create her own music inspired by women musicians from that era. The World’s Shirin Jaafari brings us her story.
