The politics of shelter after Turkey’s earthquake

Six months after the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and northern Syria, a clear pattern has emerged in the hard-hit Turkish province of Hatay. While Turkish citizens who lost their homes have largely been able to move into temporary homes in converted shipping containers, nearly all Syrian refugees are still living in tents. Approximately 1 in 4 residents of Hatay are Syrian, and as The World’s Durrie Bouscaren reports, disparities in housing and other aid are placing them in an increasingly risky situation.
