In the 1950s, Chinese musicians were looking for a stringed bass instrument that was similar to the cello but uniquely Chinese. The gehu came into being and was played in orchestras for many years. But it eventually fell out of favor. Yuxin Wu, a student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, is a gehu player and its biggest fan.
