Protests have continued in Iran for about a month since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was held in police custody for violating the country’s hijab laws. But the Iranian government has used technological tools to try and quell the protests, throttling mobile phone connections and limiting internet service during certain times of the day. Dina Temple-Raston of the podcast “Click Here” explains how the government is using technology to limit communications, and how protesters and international technology companies are trying to evade those limits.
