Sri Lanka’s prime minister told Parliament on Wednesday that the economy “had collapsed” and the crisis that has seen shortages of food and fuel to the island country could see a “possible fall to rock bottom.” Sri Lankan journalist Easwaran Rutnam in Colombo tells The World’s Carol Hills what’s happening on the ground as the country grapples with unpayable debt and the toll of both the pandemic and the war in Ukraine on the economy.
