Public employees in Sri Lanka get Fridays off to curb food shortage

The government of Sri Lanka has announced that public sector employees can take Fridays off with pay in order to grow crops in their backyards. It’s the latest effort by the government to curb hunger in the country where an economic crisis has caused food shortages. According to the UN, an estimated 80% of Sri Lankans have had to skip a meal. Host Carolyn Beeler spoke to Easwaran Rutnam, a journalist based in Sri Lanka.
