Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told the African Union Monday that “Africa is actually taken hostage” by Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine. While countries across the continent face serious food insecurity and rising fuel prices worsened by the conflict, the countries’ responses to the war have been mixed. Ebenezer Obadare at the Council on Foreign Relations speaks with The World’s Carol Hills about the complicating factors, including Russia’s work to make friends and influence countries across the continent.
