In Turkey, survivors mark one-year anniversary of devastating earthquakes

An early morning commemoration for the anniversary of earthquake victims turned into a protest in the hardest-hit Turkish province of Hatay, as survivors look back on a year of grief. Also, the predominantly Alevi Kurdish town of Pazarcık and its surrounding villages were devastated during the Feb. 6, 2023, earthquakes. Displaced survivors are spending the winter in tents and containers. They say aid is limited and that they’ve been overlooked by the government due to their cultural identity. Host Carolyn Beeler speaks with The World’s Durrie Bouscaren, who is based in Istanbul.
