Oscar Pistorius parole resurrects discussion of gender-based violence in South Africa

On Friday, in South Africa, former athlete Oscar Pistorius was released from prison. Pistorius will be required to attend gender-based violence programs while on parole. He was imprisoned for the 2013 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Her death touched off discussions about the country’s epidemic of gender-based violence, as Johannesburg-based journalist Bernadette Wicks told The World’s Carolyn Beeler.
