Nicaragua charges country’s Miss Universe director with ‘treason’ after win

Last month, we learned that the winner of Miss Universe was Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios. The country’s first-ever Miss Universe win was met with celebration and flag waving in the capital Managua. But Cindy Regidor, a journalist with Confidencial, a Nicaraguan newsroom in exile, told The World’s host Marco Werman that the government saw the victory as a threat. The director of the country’s Miss Universe franchise is now charged with participating in a coup attempt by Nicaragua’s authoritarian government.
