Nearly 40 UN peacekeepers were injured by explosive devices over the past week as their convoy left its base in Mali. The international troops known as “blue helmets” were ordered to leave the country by the military junta currently in power. Only about half of the 13,000 UN personnel have left the country. The rest are expected to leave by the end of the year, but the junta and its allies won’t be able to fill the void left by the departing UN troops, expert Jonathan Guiffard with Institut Montaigne tells The World’s Carol Hills.
