How Vienna transformed massive Nazi relicts into useful public space

During WWII, the Nazis built anti-aircraft Flak towers in cities like Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna to defend cities from the Allied Forces. Most were demolished after the war, but six towers remain in Vienna, dominating the cityscape. Rather than destroying the massive, ugly cement and steel towers, Vienna has been transforming them into public and commercial spaces, including an aquarium and an upscale rooftop café. But not everyone is happy to see the Nazi relicts turned into places of recreation. The World’s Rebecca Collard reports.
