The Other @realDonaldTrump

The Takeaway

Coming up on today’s show:

  • As Republicans move forward with their tax legislation, we explore what the Senate bill would look like for middle class families across America with Ben Casselman, economic, business, and data reporter for The New York Times.
  • Congressman Keith Ellison was an early backer of Bernie Sanders, and has been critical of the more centrist Democratic Party line, advocating for stronger and more robust economic programs. He ran to be the Democratic National Committee chairman earlier in the year, but lost to Tom Perez, and his decision to accept deputy chair position at the DNC was controversial. Today on The Takeaway, he examines the future of the Democratic Party.
  • A presidential election held this past Sunday in Honduras has thrown the country into political disarray. Elisabeth Malkin, correspondent for The New York Times, was recently in Honduras to observe the election and she joins The Takeaway to break down the election results.
  • After a two month pause, North Korea launched another inter-continental ballistic missile on Tuesday. Christopher Hill is a four-time ambassador and was a chief negotiator with North Korea during the Six Party Talks, aimed at ending North Korea’s nuclear program.  He’s currently dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver, and discusses the escalating tension between the DPRK and the U.S.
  • As White House Director of Social Media, Dan Scavino has done little to rein in the president’s tweeting habits, and has added to the controversy in the past. How much influence does he have with the president’s social media? Ashley Feinberg, Senior Reporter at HuffPost, explains.
  • International travel to the U.S. is down this year. Is it because of a “Trump slump”? Laura Mandala, the CEO of Mandala Research and founder of Women in Travel and Tourism International, and Jake Haupertthe founder of an adventure travel company based in Seattle, Washington called Evergreen Escapes, explore the dip in international travel.

This episode is hosted by Todd Zwillich
