In the Trump Era, Who Decides What Patriotism Means?

• Some 49 million Americans live in places where there are not enough dentists. In those areas, it’s often hard to get an appointment even if you have private insurance, and it’s even harder for people on Medicaid. When taking these factors together, America is facing a public health crisis as it relates to dental care, according to Mary Otto, author of “Teeth: The Story of Beauty, Inequality, and the Struggle for Oral Health in America.”

• On Monday, millions of Iraqis in Kurdish-controlled areas turned out to voted in a landmark referendum on independence. Sally Nabil, a correspondent for the BBC, weighs in. 

• Mark Twain died in 1910, and since then he’s had numerous posthumous works published. The next book that will be added to that list is the children’s book “The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine.” Mythili Rao, a producer at The New Yorker Radio Hour, has the details.
