On this week's podcast:

After decades of striving to bring down barriers that have blocked full equality for women, Gloria Steinem, now 81, remains at the forefront of the feminist movement. She chronicles those battles and many more aspects of her rich and fascinating career in “My Life on the Road,” her first book in 20 years. She joins us to discuss the new memoir.

The Obama Administration, which had previously pledged to draw down America’s military presence in the Middle East, now says it will keep nearly 10,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and plans to deploy a small team of elite Special Operations troops to Syria to aid in the fight against ISIS. Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, joins us to discuss the shift in Middle East strategy.

Bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Maraniss joins us to discuss his new book. “Once in a Great City: A Detroit Story.” The book examines 18 months in the life of the Motor City in its heyday, from the fall of 1962 to the spring of 1964, when it was at the center of a booming automobile era and pivotal moments in music, labor, and civil rights.
