The Death of Jordan Davis: A Family’s Search for Justice
On November 23, 2012, the day after Thanksgiving, a 17-year-old young black man named Jordan Davis stopped at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida.
Michael Dunn, a 45-year-old white man, pulled up beside the car that Davis and three of his friends were in. Dunn complained about the loud “thug” music playing in the vehicle.
The altercation turned to tragedy when Dunn fired 10 bullets at the unarmed teenagers, killing Davis.
On June 19th, a new documentary called “3½ Minutes, Ten Bullets” opens in wide release. The film chronicles the trial of Michael Dunn.
Kristen Meinzer, culture producer for The Takeaway and co-host of the Movie Date Podcast, had a chance to sit down with Jordan’s father, Ron, to talk about his son. Marc Silver, the director of the documentary, explains what he hopes this film accomplishes.
