Sara Jerving is a recent graduate Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she received an MA in business and economic reporting. Prior to her time at Columbia, Jerving worked as a reporter in East Africa for Bloomberg News, where she primarily reported on extractive industries and finance. Before this, Jerving worked as a staff reporter for the Center for Media and Democracy, where she wrote about the environment, politics, and energy. She was part of a team that won an award for investigative reporting journalism from the Sidney Hillman Foundation and an “Izzy” award for independent media. Other positions she’s held include internships with The Nation magazine, the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, the Associated Press and a community radio station in Nairobi, Kenya. At the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, stories Jerving wrote on postpartum depression and suicide contributed to the center winning the Dane County National Alliance on Mental Illness media award. She was also part of a team of reporters at the center that contributed to a nationwide investigation by the Center for Public Integrity on sexual assault on college campuses that won a Robert F. Kennedy Award and Dart Award.
