John Dickie is an independent filmmaker who has lived in Mexico since 1996. He has produced and directed feature documentaries, television series and news reports for international media like Channel Four, National Geographic, ITN, Time.com, PBS, Canal 52, Telesur and GlobalPost. Dickie also serves as Editor-at-Large for US-based Planet Magazine (www.planet-mag.com).
Dickie's work is focussed on social and security issues in Mexico. He has made films on subjects like crime news, popular uprisings, psychedelic plants, ecotourism and drug trafficking, among others. His feature documentary El Diablo y El Nota Roja was well received in more than a dozen international film festivals (www.eldiabloylanotaroja.com). Dickie has also written screenplays based on his experiences in Mexico and is making headway into feature film production. He has little formal education.
