Colum Murphy

Colum Murphy, a freelance writer based in Asia, is the former deputy editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review. During his five years at FEER he wrote extensively on politics and economics from around the region including Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Japan and Taiwan. Before that he was a reporter on the metro desk at the Hong Kong Standard, where he covered the Hong Kong region and wrote articles on topics ranging from daily news to broader public policy issues. He has also conducted research or reported for publications such as The Wall Street Journal, the International Herald Tribune, Newsweek, the Bangkok Post and the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Before entering journalism he worked in management consulting in both the Asia-Pacific region as well as Europe. He holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. He is fluent in Japanese, and earned a Masters of Commerce from Tokyo's Meiji University. Colum originally hails from Limerick, Ireland.
