Veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh has been shot and killed while covering an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank town of Jenin. She was fatally shot in the head. Her producer, Palestinian journalist Ali Samoudi, was hospitalized in stable condition after being shot in the back.

Israeli committee approves nearly 3,000 new settlement homes in the West Bank. Also, India’s Supreme Court orders an independent probe into spying claims revealed in the Pegasus Papers. And, a Brazilian commission votes in favor of recommending criminal charges against President Jair Bolsonaro.

A network outage across Iran — believe to be a cyberattack — has shut down a government system that manages fuel subsidies. Also, protesters burn tires and block roads a day after a military coup in Sudan. And, Egypt ends its state of emergency after four years.

Israel and the United Arab Emirates look set to establish full normalization of relations. As part of that framework, Israel has agreed to suspend annexation plans in the West Bank.

The annexation process could start as soon as next week, despite widespread condemnation from Palestinians, US-Arab allies and numerous foreign governments.
