Man vs Wild Bear Grylls fired by Discovery Channel (VIDEO)

The Discovery Channel has fired the star of its Man vs Wild survival show, Bear Grylls, over a contract dispute.

"He’s eaten piranha, dived into freezing bogs full of animal remains, and huddled in sheep carcasses for warmth, but there is one thing Man vs. Wild’s Bear Grylls reportedly refused to do – work on two yet unannounced projects with the Discovery channel," the Daily Mail wrote.

Reuters says that the details of the dispute are unclear but sources suggest it revolved around two unannounced projects for which Grylls, who has already completed six seasons of Man vs Wild, was contracted.

The Hollywood Reporter obtained a statement from Grylls spokeswoman Heather Krug which said: "Bear's goal has always been to make life-empowering shows for his many fans around the globe, and he has taken great risks to bring Discovery such award-winning programming over seven seasons. Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming."

Krug also says that Grylls was wanted to produce "further cutting-edge content again soon for his loyal audience."

The Discovery Channel confirmed that they had parted ways with the 37-year-old British adventurer on Tuesday.

Grylls joined the network in 2006 and Man vs. Wild had become one of Discovery's biggest hits, the New York Daily News says.

Following news of his dispute with the Discovery Channel, Entertainment Weekly reprinted Tweets from Grylls.

"Thank you fans for your support!! Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail,” he reportedly wrote.
