Thousands homeless after Brazil floods

GlobalPost

Flooding and heavy rains in Brazil have forced 20,000 people from their homes and caused at least two deaths in the northeastern state of Pernambuco, Al Jazeera reports. Brazilian media are reporting that a 21-year-old woman was killed in a mudslide and a 77-year-old woman died from a stroke while trying to escape her home. Brazilian civil defense authorities say 35 cities have been affected by recent heavy rains, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuated their homes and head for public shelters or the homes of relatives.
