China's dedicated netizens went wild with delight on Thursday in reaction to reports that the father of the country's massive web of censorship — the Great Firewall — was was hit with a shoe by a university student in Wuhan.

A Twitter user claimed responsibility for the classroom attack on Fang Binxing, the designer of China's censorship system who is widely despised by internet users upset over the growing number of blocked and banned websites and other controls in China. The Twitter user posted pictures of himself holding an egg, which missed Fang, and photos of his blistered feet after leaving the scene with no shoes. Police confirmed they are investigating.

Fang is no stranger to being the subject of outrage, having been run off the popular micro-blogging platform Weibo just hours after opening an account.
