Benghazi is Libya's second largest city. The port city in eastern Libya is where the revolt against Col Muammar Gaddafi started and there were celebrations when the residents overthrew Gaddafi's rule.

The rebels set up committees to govern and organized militias to fight against Gaddafi's forces. Now Gaddafi's army is back on the offensive and Benghazi is under siege.
