Jammed roads and airports as Brazil takes weekend off

Easter means a holiday weekend in Brazil, and holiday travel means colossal traffic jams. More than a million cars are jamming the roads out of Sao Paulo for the long weekend and something like 18 percent of all flights in the country were delayed or cancelled as of yesterday. The Financial Times has a smart take on how all this jammed-up travel underscores Brazil’s need to overhaul key infrastructure in the run-up to the Olympics and World Cup. And it’s not just travelers who are being hurt, crumbling roads and crowed ports mean its tougher than ever for Brazilian farmers and manufacturers to transport their goods to overseas buyers, and that’s bad for any country’s long-term outlook.
