Two arrested in beheading of Afghan girl

Afghan police have arrested two men accused of beheading a teenage girl with a knife after her father refused a marriage proposal for his daughter.
"Our investigation shows those who killed her were people who wanted to marry her," police told BBC News.
One of the alleged suspects had proposed to the girl, Gaiseena, 15, through her family last year, said chief of Imam Sahib district Amanuddin Quraishi, CNN reported. The two men allegedly attacked and killed the girl on Monday about 100 meters from her house as she was bringing water home to her family.

According to the BBC, senior Afghan officials and local tribal elders said the two men were close relatives of Gaiseena. Her father had refused the marriage proposal because he said she was "too young to be engaged."
British charitable organization Oxfam has reported that 87 percent of Afghan women say they have experienced physical, sexual or psychological violence or forced marriage, noted Agence France-Presse. Four people were arrested last month after a 20-year-old woman was beheaded by her husband's family when she refused to become a prostitute.
BBC said four policemen were also jailed earlier this month for 16 years for raping a young woman.
