BROOKLYN – The National Weather Service issued a severe weather advisory for the Northeastern United States on Saturday for severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes across the Great Lakes, New England and Mid-Atlantic States, CBS News reported.
According to the New York Post, a tornado touched down in Brooklyn, New York off Coney Island and Rockaways Beach. Brooklyn’s last major tornado was in 2010, the Post wrote.
CBS News said a tornado watch is in effect for New York City and the state, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont.
ESPN reported the US Open women's singles final match between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka scheduled for Saturday night was postponed until Sunday because of rain.
