Syria says it foiled Aleppo suicide attack

Syrian security forces in Aleppo killed a would-be suicide bomber whose car was filled with 1,200 kilograms of explosives, according to Al Akhbar.
The BBC wrote that Syrian state television said the incident took place in the Al-Shaar neighborhood of Aleppo.

The foiled attack comes a day after two suicide bombs ripped through Damascus in the deadliest bombing in the 14-month-long Syria conflict. The Syrian government blamed "foreign-backed terrorists," and rebels said the government staged the attacks.
The toll from yesterday's attack hovers around 400 injured, according to the BBC. At least 55 were killed, according to a news update from Reuters. The explosives used in the twin bombs were estimated to weigh 1,000 kilograms each.

Aleppo, which is the country's largest city, remains relatively supportive of Bashar al-Assad. The city "had been largely spared in Syria's 14 months of bloody uprising. But recent protests and violence there could signal a significant shift," wrote CNN.
