Two men are undergoing surgery after a gunman opened fire inside a St. Louis career college this afternoon.

A 21-year-old student shot a school administrator in an apparent dispute over financial aid, The Post-Dispatch reported.

The student then fled to a nearby stairwell and shot himself.

“He was familiar to faculty and staff,” police Chief Sam Dotson told reporters. “This did not appear to be random. It appeared to be targeted.”

The suspect shot the administrator – a man in his 40s – in the chest. Both were undergoing surgery at 3 p.m. local time.

The Stevens Institute of Business and Arts offers classes in business, tourism, paralegal, fashion and design.

About 180 students are enrolled, and there were no other injuries reported, The Associated Press said.

Fox News in St. Louis said the gunman was a part-time student and the victim a financial adviser.
