Researchers say that they have discovered the triggering mechanism behind major volcanic explosions.
Russia's Plosky Tolbachik volcano has erupted, sending 2.5 miles of gas and ashes into the sky. Experts say that it could continue for four months, BBC News reported.

Gennady Karpov, a volcano expert, said that the explosion is unprecedented. "There were no lava lakes at Kamchatka volcanoes before now," she told the Associated Press. "We have never seen this before."
