Rielle Hunter says she and former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards have ended their controversial relationship.

Hunter told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that she and the former senator were still together until late last week, when her memoir debuted and she went public about how they met, hid their affair and had a baby girl together.

Hunter, 48, said she still loves Edwards, and he will still be involved with raising their daughter, Quinn, who is 4 years old and lives with Hunter, according to The Associated Press.

"We are a family, but as of the end of last week, John Edwards and I are no longer a couple," she said on "GMA." "We decided together to end it."

Hunter gave no specifics about what led to the breakup, although she referenced the "media scrutiny" the couple had endured, adding, "It's hard, and it wears you down after a while."

Last month, a trial over charges of campaign finance corruption related to the affair ended in a hung jury on most of the felony counts. Federal prosecutors then dropped the remaining charges against Edwards, CBS News reported.

An attorney for Edwards told the AP she would forward to him a message seeking comment.
