Pistorius must ‘live with his conscience,’ Steenkamp’s father says

Pistorius battled to secure bail as he appeared on charges of murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, Valentine’s Day. South African prosecutors will argue that Pistorius is guilty of premeditated murder in Steenkamp’s death, a charge which could carry a life sentence. Pistorius denies the charge, saying that he shot 29-year-old Steenkamp repeatedly through a locked bathroom door in the dead of night by accident, having mistaken her for a burglar.
South Africa's "Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius "will have to live with his conscience" over killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, her father says.
According to the Associated Press, the Afrikaans-language Beeld newspaper quoted Barry Steenkamp as saying Pistorius, 26, will "suffer" on his own if he is not telling the truth about how he killed his 29-year-old girlfriend.

He also said he might one day be able to forgive Pistorius if his story of mistaking Reeva for an intruder is true.

Reeva Steenkamp was a model and graduate of law school with a growing career in TV, reported BBC News. She was shot dead in Pistorius's home in the early hours of Valentine's Day. Pistorius has admitted to shooting her through a locked bathroom door, but said he thought he was firing at an intruder.

He was released on bail on Friday after eight days in police custody and a magistrate determined he did not have a violent character and he would not try to flee.
His next hearing is set for June 4.
