New Jersey Governor Chris Christie speaks at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, on August 28, 2012 during the Republican National Convention.
Patricia Carroll, a black CNN camerawoman, says she is "not surprised" by a recent racist incident at the Republican National Convention in which some attendees threw nuts at her and reportedly said, "This is how we feed animals.'"
CNN reported on Tuesday that two GOP attendees approached the CNN camera operator who was covering the RNC. Multiple witnesses confirmed the incident and the two were immediately removed by security, according to CNN.
Carroll told the Maynard Institute "I hate that it happened, but I'm not surprised at all."

The institute noted that Carroll is concerned that her experience will be politicized. She said, "This situation could happen to me at the Democratic convention or standing on the street corner. Racism is a global issue," according to the Maynard Institute.
However, she did add, "This is Florida, and I'm from the Deep South … You come to places like this, you can count the black people on your hand." She noted "there are not that many black women" at the RNC.
Just one day after the incident, Yahoo! News fired Washington bureau chief David Chalian after he was caught saying Mitt Romney and his wife are “happy to have a party with black people drowning.”
