‘Million Puppet March’ planned for DC to defend PBS funding
Does Mitt Romney really want to see the back of Big Bird? Probably not. But Twitter thinks he does.
If you learn one thing from the presidential debates make it this: do not mess with Big Bird because he has a lot of friends.
More than 1,000 puppeteers and public broadcasting supporters have signed on for a march on the National Mall in Washington on Nov. 3, three days before the election, in the brilliantly titled Million Puppet March.
"Bring your favorite puppet and join us in Washington DC on November 3rd, 2012 for a morning of fun in the largest gathering of puppets to ever March on Washington in support of public broadcasting," organizers exclaimed on the event's Facebook page.
The group originally titled the event the "Million Muppet March" but have since changed the name to include all of muppet kind, according to the AP. The group hopes to recruit a wide array of puppets including sock puppets, finger puppets, marionettes, mascots and even those wily shadow puppets.
The rally inspiration stemmed from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stating that he would end government funding of PBS saying, "I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS. […] I like PBS. I love Big Bird. I actually like you [moderator and PBS employee Jim Lehrer] too. But I'm not going to […] keep on spending money on things, to borrow money from China to pay for it."
