A Johns Hopkins Hospital gynecologist accused of using a secret camera to film patients killed himself after police launched an investigation into the allegations.
Nikita Levy is suspected of using a pen, worn around his neck, to conceal a camera, which he used to record patients during examinations, the Associated Press reported.
Levy, 54, was dismissed from the hospital earlier this month after a co-worker reported her suspicions to the hospital authorities, who then notified police.
UPI reported “multiple recording devices” were found in Levy’s office while police also retrieved hard drives and servers with patients’ pictures on them from his home.
Levy was found dead after an apparent suicide last week, The Inquisitr reported.
The Associated Press said more than 2,000 patients and former patients of Levy have contacted the hospital to find out if they were among the victims.
Johns Hopkins, which is facing at least two lawsuits over the matter, issued a letter to patients saying: “Today, we stand humbled by the events and tragic circumstances that involve the patients and community we serve. We want to assure our patients that their privacy, safety and well-being are our priority.
"We acted quickly and we reported information to them with as much detail as we had and our partners in law enforcement would allow."
Police are investigating whether any of the "recordings had been distributed,” The Inquisitr said.
