JetBlue flight makes emergency landing after pilot acts erratically

JetBlue Flight 191, flying from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Las Vegas this morning, made an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas, after the captain became incoherent and the co-pilot locked him out of the cockpit, CBS News reported.

A federal official told CBS News that the co-pilot convinced the captain to leave the cockpit, and the captain went to the bathroom. When the captain discovered he’d been locked out, he started pounding on the cockpit door.

"Passengers noticed the guy acting weird when he came out of the bathroom,” a passenger told ABC News. The passenger said it sounded like the pilot yelled "bomb" and "we're going down” as he hit the cockpit door.

The pilot was restrained by an off-duty New York City police officer and an off-duty JetBlue pilot on the flight, according to ABC News. The off-duty pilot then helped the co-pilot land the plane in Texas.

Upon landing in Amarillo at 10:11 CT/11:11 ET, JetBlue officials said the pilot was removed from the plane and taken to a medical facility, Fox News reported. He is now in FBI custody, ABC News reported. The 135 passengers on board were sent to a new plane to complete their journey to Las Vegas, Fox News reported.
