Henry Kissinger turns down Herman Cain’s offer of secretary of state

Herman Cain offered Henry Kissinger a position in his administration, but the former secretary of state politely declined the offer.

The Miwaukee Journal Sentinel has released another video of their editorial board interview with Cain, in which they his hypothetical administration.

"Dr. Kissinger turned my offer down to be secretary of state. He said he’s perfectly happy doing what he’s doing," Cain said, after he was asked what kind of people he would like to have as part of his administration.  

Cain met with Kissinger in New York in early November, to discuss foreign policy. During the meeting, Kissinger had emerged as a fan of the viral web ad showing Cain's campaign manager, Mark Block, taking a drag of a cigarette.

According to the National Review:

"Halfway through Mr. Cain's conversation, Doctor Kissinger turns and points to me and says, 'That smoking thing you did was brilliant.' I sat there thinking, Dr. Henry Kissinger just said something I did was brilliant," Block said. "We all got a good chuckle."

Kissinger aside, Cain plans on having "majority of business people as well as some seasoned officeholders," in his administration.  

He also specifically named Paul Ryan, Jim DeMint, John Bolton, KT McFarland and John Chain, the former head of Strategic Air Command, as people who may be part of his administration.  

Cain had previously named Kissinger, Bolton and McFarland as people who influenced his foriegn policy.
