US Representative Dave Camp announced today that he has non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Bloomberg Businessweek reported. Camp, 59, a Republican from Michigan, chairs the House Ways and Means Committee.
“After a recent routine yearly physical, it was discovered that I have a very early, highly treatable and curable type of non-Hodgkins lymphoma,” he said in a statement, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. “Thankfully, my health is otherwise excellent, and my doctors and I expect a full recovery and cure.”
Camp said he would fight his cancer with chemotherapy sessions every three weeks for the next few months, the Wall Street Journal reported. He said he plans to work throughout the treatment, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Camp, who’s been in Congress since 1991, is running for reelection this year, the Detroit Free Press noted. And, the Wall Street Journal reported, the House is days away from voting on a plan developed by Camp to extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for all income levels.

The legislative package also will include a blueprint for passing a sweeping overhaul of the much-maligned tax code next year, a top priority for Mr. Camp.

“Anyone who has the privilege to know Dave Camp will tell you he is as tough and determined as they come,” House Speaker John Boehner said in a statement today, the Detroit Free Press reported.
