China: Police rescue 89 children in human trafficking ring bust

Chinese police have rescued 89 children and arrested 355 suspects after busting a series of child trafficking rings, the government announced today. The kids are being cared for in nursing homes while police look for their parents.
"We will collect the children's DNA and use it to find their parents within a national DNA database established for anti-trafficking purposes," an official told Xinhua news agency.

Human trafficking is a serious problem in China, Zee News reported, that can be traced back to China's one-child policy.
The policy has resulted in abortions, killings or abandonment of baby girls, and created a demand for abducted or purchased baby boys, Reuters reported.
The Chinese government has taken steps to combat the black market by tightening adoption rules and cracking down on child trafficking rings, Voice of America reported.
