Seven people were killed and six wounded in separate shooting incidents around Chicago on Saturday, CBS News reported.
Two were double-homicide shootings, police said, according to CBS News. Two men in their 40s were killed and one wounded outside a 24-hour diner at 4 a.m., the Chicago Tribune reported. In the other double homicide, a 16-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man were killed.
Ronnie Chambers, a 34-year-old former gang member, was shot dead at 2 a.m. while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of a van across the street from Safer Foundation North Lawndale, an Illinois Department of Corrections transitional facility, the Chicago Tribune reported. Chambers, whose last conviction had been in 2005, was trying to build a new life for himself.
Chambers was his mother’s last remaining child after his older sister and brothers had died in gun violence, the Chicago Tribune reported. His brother Carlos was killed at age 18 in 1995, his sister LaToya was killed at age 15 in April 2000 and his brother Jerome was shot dead at age 23 in July 2000.
