Australia: Woman who got stuck on waterslide sues

A childcare worker is looking for $400,000 in damages after she got stuck in a waterslide at the 'Wet 'n' Wild' water park on Australia's Gold Coast last January.

The Herald Sun explains that Cherie Schramm, 30,  "did not gather enough speed to complete the full loop and slid back and forth inside the slide before coming to rest at the bottom of the loop."

In the damages claim, she described panicking that another user would ram into her, but managed to pull herself out through an escape hatch just in time.  However, she says she suffered a partially torn rotator cuff in her left shoulder during the exit and has ongoing mental issues.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reports that Schramm is arguing that she had not been properly warned of the danger of getting stuck, and should have been told what to do in that situation.  The claim acknowledges that the slide had a built-in escape hatch, a fenced concrete platform and a staircase to allow stuck riders to exit safely, but said there was nothing to show users how to exit the ride.

Schramm is claiming $250,000 for economic loss over 35 years, $21,200 in general damages and about $84,650 for future paid care, according to 3AW.
