Portland rescue teams recover body believed to be missing climber Kinley Adams

Mountain Rescue teams have spotted a body believed to be that of missing climber Kinley Adams from Mount Hood in Oregon.

Adams, 59, of Salem, had been missing on Mount Hood since last weekend after setting out on a one-day solo climb of the 11,239-foot peak, according to the Associated Press.

An experienced climber and member of the National Ski Patrol, according to The (Portland) Oregonian, he registered for the climb last Saturday but did not return.

The body was spotted Sunday from a helicopter near the top of Sandy Glacier, 8,400 feet up. KATU cited Sgt. Robert Wurpes of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office as saying that "there is a high probability it is Dr. Kinley Adams."

Wurpes said of the recovery operation, involving about 30 people:

"The area in which the body was located is on very difficult and technical terrain. Due to the extreme risk teams will not be able to get to the area today. As the day gets warmer, risks of rock and snow slide increase."

The trip down the mountain was expected to take 10 to 12 hours.
